Please note that any individuals who are currently working independently are very welcome to join Gatos Felices Benitatxell in caring for our furry street friends… This enables us all to work together and access the limited funds held by the council for the neutering and if necessary the euthanasia of the cats. Any other activities require fundraising.
Volunteers are always very welcome to help with this too.

PLEASE NOTE:
Should you feel a feral cat requires neutering or euthanasia and wish to access the Council funding for this veterinary care, you will require authorisation from Gatos Felices Benitatxell or the Policia Local.

PROGRESS REPORT

For those of you who are not aware, the start of this Cat Charity was driven by the local council and police of Benitaxtell.

They initially approached Cumbre Cats and were hoping this small group of dedicated volunteers working solely within Cumbre de Sol would take up the challenge of forming a registered Charity across the whole of the Benitatxell. They declined to take on this extra responsibility as they preferred to remain a smaller independent group.

The local Police and Council sent out an open invitation to all residents with an interest in helping our feral/street cats and the Charity Gatos Felices Benitaxtell was created.

Our first task with the support of the local Council was to secure charity status. This has been achieved. This was followed by opening a charitable bank account, this continues to prove challenging…

The next task was to ensure every volunteers’ actions were safe and in the best interests of the feral cats when: Trapping, neutering, dealing with health issues and the management of colonies. The Council once again stepped up and provided a free certificated course to all those interested. Once the course has been completed in full each attendee can apply for a licence to register as a recognised volunteer of a group contracted through the Council.
